Dr. Leisa A. Williams
Dr. Leisa A. Williams earned her doctorate (Ph.D.} from the University of Iowa in Iowa City. The training program in School Psychology within the Division of Psychological and Quantitative Foundations was an APA approved and NASP accredited program. Dr. Williams had practicum experiences in schools, hospital schools and clinical settings. Dr. Williams completed an APIC pre-doctoral internship with the University of Nebraska internship consortium. Her dissertation was an analysis of adolescent suicidal behavior in a residential treatment program.
Dr. Williams specialized in psychological measurement and assessment. After her first three years working as a school psychologist, she pursued a tenure track Assistant Professorship where she trained master’s level school psychology students. Dr. Williams’ passion for students’ learning needs, resulted in her decision to return to working within the pre-k to grade 12 settings to serve students with special needs and their families.
Dr. Williams obtained a license from the Department of Health Professionals in Psychology in the state of Virginia. With nearly twenty years in school settings, Dr. Williams began her own practice and also works as an independent contractor with Duffy Counseling Center. She uses her expertise in tests and measurements to gather data and evidence to help with decision-making that will support the cognitive, academic and social/emotional needs of students of all ages. In her spare time, she enjoys reading and remaining current in her field. She is creative and enjoys sewing, refurbishing furniture and has recently started a vertical garden. Her best time is spent with her two yorkies: Chuckles and Giggles.
