Adulthood & Independence
Adult aged children that continue to live with parents. While this is becoming more common in today’s society, problems arrive when adult child and parents revert back to the relationship that is prevalent in adolescence. Adult children rely heavily on parents for emotional and financial support and often lack independence. Issues arise as the adult child ages and struggles to find independence in occupational, social, and personal settings. Maladaptive behaviors are often adopted and must be broken through support, behavioral changes, and raised awareness.
Individual and family therapy are common interventions for this issue. Clinicians often use cognitive behavioral therapy as well as a client centered approach. In other words, we are ready to work at a pace you feel comfortable with as long as we work towards a goal.
